The Institute for Cancer Vaccines and Immunotherapy
The Institute for Cancer Vaccines and Immunotherapy (ICVI) funds research into the use of vaccines and Immunotherapy for the treatment of cancer.
Huge advances have been made in cancer immunology in the last 30 years and we now understand how to design therapeutic cancer vaccines. However the cost of existing vaccines is high and many of the approaches require a “bespoke” approach where vaccines are made for individuals or small groups of patients. Our work now focuses on ways to manipulate the immune response without developing such expensive treatments. It is our hope that the work we do at the CVI will lead to better, cheaper vaccines applicable across a wider range of cancers.
Our vision is that cancer vaccines will become a standard treatment and improve survival rates and patients’ quality of life for a wide range of cancers. We are a small charity which has to work hard to raise the £600,000 needed each year to continue our research work. All our income comes from voluntary sources.
